Lalrindika Ralte's stunning performance
helpep Armando Colaco’s brigade to defeat rivals Mohun Bagan 1-0 in a round 10 clash of the I-League at the Salt Lake Stadium here Sunday.
There were a few goal scoring chances in the season's first big Kolkata derby . Lalrindika's magical moment came in the 73rd minute and this gave Armando Colaco a winning start as East Bengal coach.
The first real chance of the game came to Mohun Bagan when skipper Odafa Okolie sent Eric Muranda clean through on goal with a lovely pass. But this effort was well saved by Abhijit Mondal and Katsumi Yusa's shot from the rebound was blocked by defender Arnab Mondal.
East Bengal’s best opportunity of the half came just a few minutes before the half time when Lalrindika's fling sent Ryuji but Shilton saved well at the Japanese player's feet. East Bengal had a lot of of ball possession but didn't really trouble the Mohun Bagan’s defence.
Odafa had a great opportunity to put his team in lead but Mohun Bagan captain's header from Pritam Kotal’s cross was saved Abhijit Mondal.
Armando Colaco was overjoyed after winning the derby-
“A derby is a very special game and I am very happy today. It is a nice way to start (my regime) in this fashion. The three points really augurs well for the team. The credit goes to the players."
