Ashwin tops as a Test allrounder in ICC Rankings

India’s Ravichandran Ashwin has clinched  the number-one position in the ICC Player Rankings for Test all-rounders after an outstanding  performance in the Kolkata Test, which India won by an innings and 51 runs with more than two days to spare.

   

Ashwin hits his second century and  scored scored 124. On the other hand his recorded match figures of 5-98 from 40 overs with 11 maidens. With this fantastic performance, he not only improved his batting and bowling rankings but also leapfrogged Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh and Jacques Kallis of South Africa. Ashwin bagged 81 points and leads Shakib by 43.

In the Test bowlers rankings, 27-year-old off-spinner has earned two places and is now in sixth position while in the Test batsmen rankings, he has moved up 18 places and is sitting 45th position.

Middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma and the fast bowler of Bengal- Mohammed Shami have made stellar performance and entered into the rankings. The Mumbai batsman, Rohit Sharma, who became the 14th Indian batsman to score a century on debut after striking 177.He  lies in the 63rd spot while Shami's figures of nine for 118, - the best by an Indian fast bowler on debut. This helped him to secure 53rd place in Test bowlers chart.

Other Indian pacer  Bhuvneshwar Kumar and West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford are the other bowlers to improve their rankings. Shillingford's figures of six for 167 has placed him inside the top 20 and he is in the 17th position for the first time in his career (up by four), while Kumar's two wickets have moved up into 87th place (up by 13).

AB de Villiers of South Africa keeps up his position as  N.O-1 Test batsman while his teammate Dale Steyn is the number-one ranked bowler.
